SIGNA breaks ground on STREAM office tower at Mediaspree

SIGNA together with future tenant Zalando and Berlin government representatives were on hand to break ground and start the construction of the STREAM near the riverside Mercedes-Benz Arena. "We are very pleased that we can now move on from the planning phase to the construction phase of this project," says Timo Herzberg, CEO of SIGNA. "With Zalando, we have found an attractive tenant who not only has made a long-term commitment to the property, but also to the Mediaspree campus in Berlin's Friedrichshain district." Mediaspree is one of Berlin's most sought-after office locations in the technology, media, and telecommunications industries with such prominent tenants as Mercedes Benz, CocaCola, Universal Music, and Zalando.

A modern workplace for 2,500 people
The STREAM will be a modern office building with a height of around 90 meters (295 feet) and 50,000 m² (538,000 sq. ft.) in floor space. In 2017, SIGNA acquired what was one of the last undeveloped plots in Friedrichshain's Mediaspree campus. The building has been designed by architectural firm Gewers Pudewill and will be built on a plot of land at Tamara-Danz-Straße at the corner of Wanda-Kallenbach-Straße. Some 2,500 people will eventually work in the new structure.

Completion in late 2021
The building will be 24 stories tall with two underground levels. The main entrance will be spacious lobby facing Mercedes-Benz-Platz. The ground floor will house the extensive lobby as well as meeting rooms and restaurants. The first upstairs floor will house a conference area for up to 600 visitors, ancillary rooms, and supply areas. The building is set back starting from the seventh floor to align with the surrounding environment and continues to rise to the 23rd upstairs floor. This top floor will have high ceilings offering space for special functions such as training sessions as well as small conference rooms. The basement floors contain most of the ancillary and technical areas as well as an underground car park with approximately 120 parking spaces, all of which are equipped with electric charging stations, and 250 bicycle parking spaces. Completion is scheduled for 2021.
