Energy technology

Innovative energy technologies are characteristic of the research and industrial community in Berlin-Brandenburg. Trailing only Bavaria, the region shares second spot with Hamburg for the largest density of companies, research institutes and employees in the energy technology sector. Around 50,000 people work in the approximately 6,000 companies within the energy and environmental sectors. The capital region leads the field in many areas and is a pioneer at a national and European level as well. It is Germany’s biggest field laboratory for electro-mobility and has the largest agglomeration of turbomachine manufacturers anywhere in Europe. Moreover, Berlin-Brandenburg boasts the highest concentration of solar power research and development facilities in a European comparison.
